Hallucinea Film Festival: Pexote Jack: Ohio! review and interview
· Hallucinea Film Festival
The festival's review reads the short as a closed-room Hollywood comedy that sets a colorless 1930s cartoon hero against a polished, very online studio executive, and asks whether the figures of old animation are being turned into the future at their own expense. In the accompanying email interview, Dwyer talks about how Jack was born on a hike in Joshua Tree, why early rubber-hose cartoons were darker than we remember, how much of the four-month build went into worldbuilding, and why story remains the most important part of the process.
"A modern concept that deserves attention for its aesthetic, which serves its narrative."
